Redefining Self-Care for Students

Healthy Campus Team

In this episode, we sit down with Danni Lei, a registered psychologist at Mount Royal University, and Atheena Chiong, MRU's Peer Health Educator Mental Health Lead, to explore the topic of self-care - they dive into how we often think of self-care as an individual thing, when it really needs to be a community effort.

Danni and Atheena break down how cultural views of self-care often miss the mark for students, putting all the pressure on us to “fix ourselves” instead of looking at the bigger systems at play. From academic stress to societal expectations, they talk about how these systems can affect our ability to actually take care of ourselves.
